And this year is even better, because I have Kenny to share it with. It was around this time last year that we started talking a little more and getting to know each other, and by the end of next month we'll have been dating a year. I still can't wrap my mind around it! :) I am so very happy, and I don't know how I got this blessed. I'm incredibly thankful for him.
I know things have been quiet around here lately, but it's hard to share what I'm making when it's all Christmas gifts. But hopefully I'll be done with those in the next few weeks. Stella's blue sweater is finished, just waiting for the buttons. (Speaking of my niece, how adorable is she?) I'm down to my last couple of gifts, and it's not even December quite yet, so I'm feeling good about that. :) I started spinning some new fall-colored fiber the other week, and I love how it's turning out. It was going to be a skein to sell, but that orange and gray look so nice together that I'll probably have to keep it for myself.
I finally bought an essential oil diffuser, and I've really been enjoying it! In the fall and winter, I light candles almost every evening. But I can turn my diffuser on in the morning and it makes my room smell amazing, plus acts like a humidifier. (And of course there are health benefits to diffusing different essential oils, too.) I've had orange and cinnamon leaf oils in there lately, and it smells like fall. I bought this inexpensive one from Amazon, and despite how little water it holds, it runs a surprisingly long time.
I also finally read the first Percy Jackson book. I've been hearing about this series for years, and of course I see Rick Riordan's books everywhere. (That man seems to release a new book every month or two!) I kept hearing comparisons to Harry Potter, which of course intrigued me. It was such a fun read! I enjoyed it more than I expected to, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series sometime soon.
I'm making more Christmas gifts this year . . . to save money since I still have tons of yarn although I don't think I've bought any since I resolved not to (not because of resolve but because of budget though, haha) . . . and most aren't even started . . . which is typical.
ReplyDeleteI tried the first Percy Jackson but wasn't impressed. It seemed more like a very low quality imitation of Harry Potter.
I think I'm making fewer gifts this year than previously. But yes, making gifts is a wonderful way to use up yarn stash! :)
DeleteI don't think anything will ever live up to the amazingness of Harry Potter. :) But I can see why people make the comparison, especially in regards to how the Percy Jackson books can still be thoroughly enjoyed by anyone, including adults who never read them growing up.
Lovely update post, Kristin. We're just glad to have you pop in with updates and fun blog posts when you can. :)
ReplyDeleteYour niece is adorable. Looks like she's having fun in those leaves.
Enjoy the Percy Jackson books! I've been curious about them for a while, but never started the journey.
Ha, thanks! It's much easier to come up with post ideas when I'm actually able to share everything I'm working on. :) Well, I'm biased but I think she's pretty adorable. And a complete ham for the camera!
DeleteYou should give them a try if you get the chance! I liked the first one much more than I expected to.
Loving your happiness in this post. Not that you're depressing in other posts...I just like life update posts, especially when life is happy. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd your niece is totes adorbs. Love her crazy/awesome hair! =)
Thanks, Natasha! I'm very happy so I guess it seeps through, ha. :) Yes, Stella's hair is amazing!
DeleteI agree with Natasha - life update posts are so great! I love the Christmas season too - it goes by much to quickly, but I'm doing my best this year to just enjoy each day. I'm glad that you can enjoy it with Kenny!
ReplyDeleteEssential oil diffusers are awesome. I have a blend diffusing right now that smells wonderfully festive and is hopefully multitasking as an anti-sickness mist of healthfulness. :)
Stella is so cute (and getting so big!). She's getting closer and closer to being able to take you up on all kinds of book recommendations. :D Have you been able to share some picture books with her to start her off? Does she have any favorites? I'm always on the lookout for more great picture books.
Percy Jackson was a really fun read for me too. I definitely liked the first series (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) more than the second series (The Heroes of Olympus). I like that they're such a painless way to learn the basics of Greek mythology, and I know several kids who learned to love reading because of them - that's always a good thing. :) Like you pointed out, they certainly aren't classics like Harry Potter, but we can't expect that of every series. :D
I feel a little dumb for waiting so long to get a diffuser. I love that thing! My mom and I gave my sister-in-law a big pile of picture books (lots of my favorites, "classics," so Eric Carle, Madeline, etc.) at her baby shower, and I've given Stella more since. Extra Yarn for her birthday last year, I think!
DeleteLove the yarn pics. I haven't read the lightening thief... Maybe I will check it out!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out the Percy Jackson series! They're a lot of fun.
