Swept Away {Music Monday 1}

I've been realizing lately that I rarely write about music here on the blog. I'm not sure why...I really love music and the last time I gave a brief recommendation, you guys had a nice response. :)

I've been obsessed with music for as long as I can remember, long before I fell in love with classic movies or my favorite TV shows. First it was boy bands (Backstreet Boys and N*Sync! :), then Elvis, then Christian rock: the Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, dctalk, etc. I've played the piano since I was in 1st grade and I played the flute in middle school band.

So, given the title and that delightfully cheesy icon above, I'm sure you've guessed by now that I'm declaring the first day of the week "Music Mondays" on the blog. Every week I'll post a song that I love for one reason or another. Right now, my taste of music gravitates toward either bluegrassy-folk type music or music from the 30s-50s. But I'm sure every once in a while I'll throw in a classic Newsboys song or something by Relient K or Switchfoot (two of my long-time favorites) or even something from a soundtrack or Disney film. Because I love me some Disney songs. :)

On this first Music Monday, I have the song that made me smitten with The Avett Brothers, who are now one of my favorite groups. Natalie introduced me to them when she posted this song on her blog a few years ago.

The Avett Brothers' music is so raw and genuine. They have awesome harmony, though they don't always sound perfect...it sounds real. They also write some really gorgeous lyrics. Though I'll try to mix things up, you can expect to see them featured here pretty often. :) Swept Away isn't necessarily one of my absolute favorites of theirs, but it will always be special since it's the first one I heard.

P.S. There's obviously a typo in the title of this video. It's swept, not swepty. :)

Until next time,

  1. LOVE music so I always enjoy the chance to write about it. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have some new music posts. :)

    Thanks for the recommendation, Kristin. :)
