Landslide {Music Monday 3}

I grew up listening to country music. I don't remember ever listening to much else on the radio until I was about 10 or 11 and my parents discovered K-Love. I can't believe I'm admitting this on the Internet, but I took my first steps to Billy Ray Cyrus singing Achy Breaky Heart. Yes. Back when he had a mullet.

In rural southern Virginia, country music is everywhere. I didn't really realize that it's sometimes ridiculed in other parts of the country until a few years ago. To be honest, there's a lot to poke fun at...like the drinking/cussing/cheating thread that runs through 80% of country music. But there's some good stuff out there, too. I like Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, some of the Dixie Chicks' older stuff, and then some other random songs by different groups.

The song I'm posting today is probably one of my favorite songs ever. I don't even know why. I just love that it feels a little sad and reflective and it's basically just lovely. I heard this all the time when I was younger, but it didn't really click with me and become a favorite until a few years ago. {I know this is a cover, but this is definitely my favorite version. And the music video is pretty creepy, so you get a lyrics video instead. :) }

Until next time,

  1. I grew up on country music as well! My mom loves it. I still like it, and I attribute it to how much I love bluegrass and folk now :)

  2. I also grew up on country music as well as bluegrass. My first concert was a country concert and that was Billy Ray Cyrus, I was five. however my taste in music has changed since then.

  3. In my opinion, country music started going downhill after Hank Williams died. I prefer bluegrass because it's so strongly traditional and gospel is still such a large part of it.
