Vintage brooches {part 2}.

I sort-of accidentally began a vintage brooch collection back in December (as shown here and here). I wore my brooches all winter on my heavy wool coat. Now that it's warmer I still want to use them, but some of them are too heavy to wear on regular shirts. I'll have to find some creative ways...maybe pin them on my bags or something. :)

Anyway, I recently added these "new" brooches to my collection...

I saw this one months ago at the antique store, and thought it was so sweet with the deer (from this angle it looks a bit like a llama, ha :) and the flowers. But I didn't know what Oberammergau meant. So I came home and did some research, and ended up wishing I had bought the brooch. When we went back to the store a couple of weeks ago, the brooch was still there. Mom bought it for me for my birthday.

In case you're wondering, Oberammergau is a village in Bavaria, Germany, famous for putting on a big Passion Play every ten years. The tradition of the Passion Play goes back to 1634, when the residents of the village vowed to God that they would perform the play every ten years if He spared them from the bubonic play that was sweeping across the area. Pretty interesting, huh? I like the idea that someone in our little town traveled there once, maybe specifically to see the Passion Play. :)

My mom gave me the dogwood blossom brooch {I think it was a high school graduation gift for her}, and I bought the pink rhinestone one to wear with a certain dress {the clasp is broken so I have to use a dab of hot glue when I wear it}.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the pink one is not vintage, even though I got it at the antique store.

I love this one, even though it's huge. :) I had favorited one just like this on Etsy last year, but in a different color.

P.S. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a few brooches (handmade, not vintage) from Etsy. One has arrived but the other two haven't yet. So I'll share those when they're all here. :)

Until next time,

  1. I encountered the same problem :) I love brooches but in the summer it's not so comfortable. Pin them to a bag is a really great idea and it can really upgrade any bag. Thanks!
