A giveaway {for bookworms}- now closed!

I've been dreaming up some fun stuff for the blog this month. :) And this is the first little bit of it...a giveaway!

This giveaway is perfect for my fellow book lovers. Or, if you need a gift for a bookworm, here you go. I wanted to do the giveaway pretty early in the month so the winner can get the prize before Christmas! :) Two prizes will go to the same winner:

First up, a cute Puffin Classics paperback edition of the classic, Little Women.

I already have a copy of this sweet book, and this was an extra that I sort-of-accidentally accumulated. It's brand new, but does have a black mark on the bottom of the pages (apparently it was a bargain book or something).

I know a lot of you have probably read Little Women, but if you haven't, you're really missing out! I only read it for the first time about a year or two ago, and I was pleasantly surprised. :)

The winner will also receive this bookish necklace, handmade by me.

I had some supplies left over from when I made my own, so I finally decided to use them. It's a stack of books charm, made from dollhouse books, and it comes on an admittedly cheap chain from Hobby Lobby. :) But you can remove it from this chain and slide it on another nicer one if you'd like.

P.S. If you just can't wait to have a cute book necklace, check out the tutorial here.

Here's how to enter:

Mandatory entry:
-Leave me a comment telling me your favorite book(s).

For extra entries:
-Comment telling me a book that you recently read that you loved.
-Be a follower of Sew Technicolor.
-Mention and link up the giveaway on your own blog.

Please leave a separate comment for each entry. Sorry international readers, but this giveaway is open only to US and Canada. Giveaway ends in about a week, so sometime next weekend. :) Good luck!

P.S. Another giveaway coming soon- for classic movie fans. :)

 Until next time,

  1. This is so fun, Kristin! My [current] favorite book is *Emily of Deep Valley* by Maud Hart Lovelace. If you haven't read the Betsy-Tacy books, you really must. :)

  2. I recently listened to *A Year Down Yonder* by Richard Peck on audio book and loved it. It's sweet and funny and nostalgic all at the same time. The first book, *A Long Way from Chicago* is also great.

  5. I blogged about the giveaway here: http://justaudreyblog.blogspot.com/2011/12/more-reviews-farmhouse-culture-kraut.html

Will you be reviewing *That's Entertainment*? I haven't seen those yet and would love to hear your thoughts!

Speaking of *Little Women*, I recently read the *Mother Daughter Book Club* by Heather Vogel Frederick, in which the moms and daughters read *Little Women*. The book itself was just okay, but it definitely piqued my interest in *Little Women* again, since I haven't read it since I was probably about 7 or 8!

Oh, and I must ask the age-old "Laurie or Professor Bhaer" question?

  11. Audrey,
I am planning on reviewing the "That's Entertainment" trilogy. :) I love those films!

I've heard of that series, but I've never read any of them!

As for Laurie and Professor Bhaer, well...I always loved Laurie, but I really didn't think that he and Jo could ever be really happy together (still, with the image of Peter Lawford in my head as Laurie, I always thought, how on earth could she say no to him?? :). But the romantic side of me wanted Jo to end up with someone, and I like Professor Bhaer well enough. :)

  12. I love the necklace. Really fun! And I've never read Little Women before, although my younger sister has.

My favorite books would have to be the Hercule Poirot series by Agatha Christie. I started reading them this summer after watching several of the TV show and movies on PBS. I'm currently reading my 10th one since April, and I'm usually not a big reader...

  19. You don't have to count this as an entry, I just wasn't sure where else to reply.

I look forward to your reviews on the *That's Entertainment* films. :)

One of my younger brothers likes Alcott's books (probably more than I do, LOL!). I had the discussion with him once how I thought that Jo should have married Laurie, but he made me see it differently. He described Prof. Bhaer more as Jo's intellectual equal. He said it makes sense how they are better suited for each other if you read the subsequent books (*Little Men*, etc.). I don't think I've read those (I think...) so maybe that makes more sense. I don't know, though. A big part of me still wishes should would've married Laurie. Prof. Bhaer always seems like kind of just a way to throw in an ending...like almost an after-thought by the author.

  21. Entry #2: I recently read "Sex God" by Rob Bell (not quite the typical read for this blog, BUT...). It was for a class, but it's actually really good. I don't agree with him on everything, but in some things, he makes some excellent points!
