I'm supposed to give seven random things about myself, so here goes:
1. I collect children's books, especially picture books (I have close to 100). I collect them for my someday-children, but also because I love picture books! They're fun and clever and gorgeous. :) I especially like quirky ones. For Christmas, I picked out a picture book about the Loch Ness Monster. How awesome is that? I also hinted around for an Audrey Hepburn one from Amazon (sorry, can't include the link, because then I'll know if Mom bought it or not...you can search for it, though- it's called "Just Being Audrey").
Some of my favorite picture book authors and illustrators are Eric Carle, Tomie dePaola, Ludwig Bemelmans (Madeline books), Beatrix Potter, Ezra Jack Keats, Dr. Seuss, H.A. Rey (Curious George books), and Bernard Waber.
Remember that children's literature series I was going to do way back when? Good grief, I really messed that one up. Maybe I'll try to actually follow through on that soon...
2. I started watching Planet Earth last night, and I love it. Except for the occasional mentions of evolution, things that happened 50 million years ago, etc., it is gorgeous! The cinematography is stunning and the whole series is a great reminder of how amazing the Creator is. One of my favorite parts so far was the pandas- I used to just love pandas! The shot of the mama panda holding her tiny cub to her chest was one of the cutest things I have ever seen. I also loved the terrifying shark and the elephants swimming.
And the leopards/pumas/large cats. I'm always in awe of the fact that their behaviors and mannerisms are identical to those of house cats! The snow leopard stretches in the exact same way Jack does. :) There's just the minor thing that, instead of hunting bugs, they're hunting animals nearly as big as me. That's a little creepy.
3. I love Legos. I have ever since I was kid. Yesterday, I was staying with my cousins' children that I keep three afternoons a week. The little boy asked me to put together a Lego set of his, a car. So I did. His mom was like, "You didn't have to put all of that together!" But I had so much fun doing it! :) There's something so satisfying about following the step by step instructions to building something like that.
I had this Lego set (and actually, I think that Amy's parents gave it to me for Christmas one year when I was a kid, and she and her brother helped me put it together). I still have most of the pieces somewhere around here. It was awesome. A yellow shark cage, several varieties of sharks, seaweed, and a treasure chest? Legos are the best.
4. I also love board games. I used to play them all the time, when I could wrangle my brother into playing against me. (Apparently I'm feeling very nostalgic today, so bear with me!) I really loved The Game of Life. It was fun to put the tiny blue boys and pink girls in the little car. :) We had this version with the lovely 90s sweater-wearing family.
5. I despise going to doctors. I really only go to the eye doctor and the dentist. I don't trust modern medicine and pharmaceuticals very much anyway, and thankfully I don't get sick very often. I've also only had one surgery in my whole life, and that was having my wisdom teeth out back in April.
6. Lately I have not been in the mood for oldies TV...instead, I've had this crazy craving for 90s TV. Which is a little strange, but not really since I'm a child of the 90s and I have been feeling nostalgic lately. :) I love Full House and have the whole series on DVD, in all of its glorious cheesiness. And I've just started watching the first season of Boy Meets World. Which we used to watch when I was little. I caught a few episodes when we were on vacation, and now I want to see the whole series.
7. I am attempting Nanowrimo again this year. I'm days behind, so things aren't looking so great right now. But who knows, I might be able to pull through. :)
I don't know if versatile is synonymous with random, but if so, then I would say this is definitely a versatile post! :) Anyway, I'm not going to tag anyone specifically with this award. Feel free to take it and list random things about yourself on your blog as well. It's fun. For me, anyway. :)Until next time,
