First of all, I have to say happy birthday to Elvis, the king of rock and roll, awesome hair, and the famous lip curl. Thank you for being my introduction to oldies and the beginning of my vintage obsession. Thank you for putting your heart into your singing, having a voice that is so inimitable that anyone who tries just sounds ridiculous, and for making bad movies more bearable.
Now I think I'll have to go and watch either the '68 Comeback Special, or one of his movies (I know they're not the greatest quality films, but some of them are actually pretty good: "Jailhouse Rock" and "G.I. Blues," for example). But first, here are some crafty things I've made over the past few days:
A cute cat/dog wallet that will be listed in my Etsy shop at the beginning of the week. :)
A needlebook! I used to just have all of my needles stuck in a piece of felt. It was functional but pretty boring. So I made this little needlebook based on this one. I didn't use any measurements or anything, because I was watching "High Noon" at the time and therefore a little distracted.
It's all out of felt, with a little heart applique and this adorable gingham button closure (I have several of these buttons and use them very sparingly!):
It's super fast and easy. Mine has one folded piece of felt in it, making two pages. Because of my fear of hand sewing, I don't have many needles. :) I just stitched the spine sort of like I do when bookbinding, and then ended up going back and filling in the spaces to make it a little more sturdy.
I also finally finished this "Charlotte's Web" inspired embroidery that I started months ago but hadn't worked on in forever! I just love this story. I based it (somewhat) off of the illustration in the book. It's framed in an 8 inch (I think?) hoop. It will probably also be for sale in the shop next week.
Tomorrow, I'll have pictures of my two projects for the craft book challenge for January to put up: a skirt and a little owl. :) And, depending on how things go, I also might have pictures of my next crafty endeavor:
A little handbag made out of an old book!
I think these are the coolest things ever, but they're ridiculously expensive to buy. So DIY, right? I found a tutorial and bought the book I'm going to use at the Goodwill today, but it's so beautiful that I'm terrified to cut it up! Anyway, I might work on this tonight and/or tomorrow, so if all goes well, there could be pictures tomorrow. :)
Oh I was wondering why they were playing Elvis movies on tv all day today! :) Cute crafts! I want to try the book handbag too. (If you don't mind.) xx.
yes, I will happily admit I have the same birthday as the king of rock n roll, Elvis Presley. :) Shannon http://www.supersweetstyles.com/
