A good day.

Today has been a good day. :)

It started off not so good, with a dentist appointment. Just a check-up, but I still don't like going to any sort of doctor. But then, me and Mom ran some errands, including a trip to the bargain store (the one with the amazing book section) and the Goodwill. And I found some amazing deals!

At the bargain store, I got three children's books (Babar's USA, Babar Goes to America, and Adele & Simon in America), all for a few dollars each.

Then we went to Goodwill, because I wanted two old picture frames to paint and frame my art prints from The Little Fox in. I found two frames, and then I browsed (for a long time :) in their bookstore. Our Goodwill has an amazing little used bookstore inside of it. I ended up buying the two frames, The Real Mother Goose (a book of the rhymes that my teacher says every "early childhood educator" should own), Horton Hatches the Egg, Lyle and the Birthday Party, Ira Sleeps Over (another book by the guy who wrote the Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile books), a 1960s copy of the first two Mary Poppins books, Sam and the Firefly, and a boardbook version of Goodnight Moon. Seven books and two frames for less than $10!

I was so happy with the books I found! If you can't tell, I love children's books. I've been planning a post on children's literature since the summer, and I promise I'll put it up sometime. All of the books I got at Goodwill are in near-perfect shape, except the Mary Poppins volume. The hardcover is a little water-damaged and spotted on that one (it smells like a musty basement), and the papercover is torn, but it's still in good shape.

Then, I got home and went to BurdaStyle.com, remembering I had entered a contest on their yesterday. I made an account on there years ago when I first started sewing, but I forgot what it was. So yesterday, I made a new account on there just to download a free pattern. And while I was there, I thought I might as well enter the daily holiday contest. And...I won! I couldn't believe it. :) When I saw my name, I thought it wasn't me, but when I checked my email, there it was. So what did I win?

Two accessories from Modcloth! This scarf and this bag (which has an amazing story to go with it). I cannot wait to get them!

I love Modcloth and go there often to check out the clothes, but I would never be able to afford anything from them, except maybe some of their jewelry. But they have gorgeous things that really inspire me. In fact, after looking at their coats yesterday, I finally got the motivation to cut out the pattern for the purple coat I meant to make weeks ago.

Look at these two beautiful coats:
^This one is named after Jane Eyre. Isn't it lovely?

^The book I have, Sew Serendipity, actually has a coat pattern in it similar to this.
And Modcloth also has really cute dresses that I would love to attempt sometime. When my clothes sewing ability greatly improves.

And to add to this wonderful day, we're off in a few hours to see "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"! I cannot wait. I'm going to try my best to finish rereading the book before then.

Until next time,

I wish our Goodwill had a bookstore. They just have a couple shelves full..
I desperatly need to find a good, cheap used book store. I'm hoping to find some fun old ones to decorate with even!

  3. Love your bookstore finds! I don't know that I've ever read a Mary Poppins book...might have to remedy that. :) And a belated congrats on your contest win, that is wonderful! :)
